Getting to Your Southampton Cruise from the New Forest: The Terminal-by-Terminal Taxi Guide

Southampton has five main cruise terminals, and the drive from Brockenhurst takes approximately 30 minutes in normal conditions. Embarkation traffic, the allocated terminal and the correct port entrance all need to be considered when arranging a transfer.

Start with the terminal shown on your cruise documents

Southampton's five main cruise terminals are:

  • Ocean and QEII, in the Eastern Docks.
  • City, Horizon and Mayflower, in the Western Docks.

The distinction matters because the two dock areas use different approaches. The recommended gate can still change with port operations and traffic management, so the terminal on the cruise documents — not a remembered gate number — should lead the plan.

Your cruise documents should identify the terminal. Include the ship, terminal and allocated arrival time in the quote request, and recheck with the cruise line close to sailing. Our Southampton cruise terminal transfer page lists each terminal with its berth, dock and postcode.

Embarkation day timing

Cruise lines give you a boarding window rather than a single check-in time, and on a turnaround day they mean it. Arriving two hours early does not get you on board two hours early — it gets you held outside a terminal that is still disembarking the previous sailing.

The variable is not the road but the docks themselves: on a busy Saturday with several ships turning around, the approach to the gates queues. Build that in rather than discovering it with your bags in the boot.

Cruise luggage is not airport luggage

This is the difference that catches people out when they book a car by passenger count alone. Airlines cap what you can bring; a cruise does not, so cruise passengers routinely travel with larger and heavier cases, plus formal wear, plus the things you take on a two-week holiday that you would never take on a flight.

Four passengers with cruise luggage is not the same booking as four passengers with airport luggage. Give us the number and rough size of the cases along with the passenger count and we will allocate a vehicle that actually fits them.

Coming home: disembarkation runs late

Ships dock early in the morning, but you do not walk off when they do. Disembarkation is staggered by luggage tag across several hours, and the time your cruise line allocates is what determines when you actually reach the terminal doors. Give us that allocated time rather than the ship's arrival time.

Frequently asked questions

Which Southampton cruise terminal will my ship sail from?

Check your cruise line's booking confirmation, and check it again a few days before you sail. The Port Authority decides which ship uses which terminal, not the cruise line, so the same ship can sail from a different terminal on a different date.

Can you take us to the ship and collect us from a flight afterwards?

Yes, and the reverse. Ship-to-flight and flight-to-ship connections on the same day are a regular part of this work. Send both legs in one request so the timings can be checked against each other before quoting.

Do you collect from the terminal when we come home?

Yes. Give us your allocated disembarkation time rather than the ship's arrival time — those are not the same thing.
