Short answer
Work back from your airline's check-in deadline, not from a rule of thumb: add the road time for your route, then a contingency for the junction it gets held up at. As a worked example, a 07:00 departure with a two-hour check-in would mean leaving the New Forest at about 05:00 for Southampton or Bournemouth and about 03:30 for Heathrow or Gatwick. Your airline's requirement is the figure that counts, and we agree the pickup time with you when quoting.

How each row was worked out
Airline check-in requirement our current estimate of the road time for that route a contingency for the junction that route is known to queue at. The examples assume two hours for the short-haul airports and three for the long-haul ones, no bag drop queue beyond the normal, and a pickup in or near a village rather than several miles down a lane.
These are illustrations of the method, not a schedule. Your airline's current check-in deadline overrides anything here, and the pickup time for your journey is agreed on your written quote.

These are examples, not promises. A rural pickup several miles out, a group with a lot of luggage, bad weather or a different check-in requirement all move the figure, which is why the pickup time is agreed on your written quote rather than read off a table.
A 03:30 departure sounds worse than an 05:15 one and is considerably more predictable. At that hour the M27, M3 and M25 are empty, the village is empty, and the drive takes exactly as long as the map says. By 06:30 on a weekday none of that is true.
It is why the 07:00 rows above have a smaller total allowance than the 09:00 rows despite the same check-in requirement. You are not buying time for the airport, you are buying time for the traffic.
Airport work is pre-booked rather than dispatched on demand, and driver availability between midnight and 04:00 is genuinely limited — more so across school holidays and through the summer, when the whole forest is busy.
A pre-dawn departure is not something to arrange the night before. The earlier the request, the more likely the slot can be held for you.
New Forest postcodes routinely cover a wide spread of properties, and plenty of homes and holiday lets sit down unmarked tracks that satnav misses or misplaces. On an early airport run, in the dark, that is the difference between leaving on time and leaving twenty minutes late.
Give us the property name alongside the postcode, plus anything a driver would find useful — which side of the lane, whether there is a cattle grid, whether the gate is shared. It goes into the journey plan rather than being worked out on the morning.
